Our Mission & Values

Equipping Pianists to Worship Boldly and Serve Faithfully

At Hymns With Phil,
our mission is simple:

To equip pianists with the skills, confidence, and heart to worship through hymn playing—and to serve their churches with joy, humility, and excellence.

We don’t just want to build better musicians. We want to raise up servant-hearted worshipers—people who love the Lord, love their craft, and use their musical gifts to glorify God.

Our values are shaped by Scripture and grounded in our faith:

Clarity with Compassion

“A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels.”
– Proverbs 1:5 (KJV)

We believe learning should be structured, encouraging, and never overwhelming.

Worship over Performance

“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
– Colossians 3:17 (KJV)

Playing hymns is more than musical technique—it’s a form of worship.

Excellence in Stewardship

“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might…”
– Ecclesiastes 9:10a (KJV)

We strive to help our students play skillfully, knowing that our gifts are worth developing.

A Heart of Service

“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
– 1 Peter 4:10 (KJV)

Our goal is not applause, but impact. We play to uplift, support, and point others to Christ.

What Makes Hymns With Phil Different

We’re Not Just Creating Piano Players. We’re Cultivating Worshipers.

There are plenty of piano courses out there. Many of them will teach you notes, theory, and technique.

But Hymns With Phil goes deeper.

We believe your gift was meant for more than perfection or performance. It was meant for worship.

We don’t just train your hands—we speak to your heart. Our lessons are designed to help you:

  • Understand music in a way that feels natural and empowering.
  • Play with both skill and sensitivity.
  • Develop a musical vocabulary that brings hymns to life.
  • Serve your church with confidence, clarity, and joy.

This isn’t about impressing people with flashy playing. This is about cultivating humble, Spirit-filled musicians who glorify God with every note.

Meet Phillip Goltiao

Founder of Hymns With Phil | Steinway-Recognized Instructor | Award-Winning Piano Educator

Phillip Goltiao is not just a talented pianist—he’s a gifted teacher with a heart for helping others worship through music. As the founder of Hymns With Phil, Phillip brings over a decade of experience empowering students to move beyond rigid sheet music and into the joy of expressive, spirit-led hymn playing.

A 2021 recipient of Steinway & Sons’ Top Piano Teacher Award, Phil has taught students from all walks of life—from homeschoolers and church musicians to celebrities and complete beginners. His unique method is rooted in clarity, structure, and real-world application, making him one of the few instructors who specialize in helping pianists learn how to improvise and embellish traditional hymns with confidence and creativity.
But Phil’s journey didn’t start with improvisation—it began with frustration. Growing up in traditional piano lessons, he was told to stick to the notes on the page, even though his heart longed to play for church in a way that moved people. That disconnect led him to pursue formal training in hymn playing and improvisation. Now, he’s on a mission to give others what he never had: a clear, step-by-step system to unlock their potential and serve their churches through powerful, heartfelt music.
